Our Pathologists
“My favorite thing about being a pathologist is when I can immediately review a sample during a biopsy procedure to ensure that there is an adequate specimen for diagnosis and whatever subsequent testing may be needed for optimal patient care.”
Hillary Zalaznick, M.D.
Dr. Hillary Zalaznick is board certified in anatomic pathology and has completed subspecialty fellowship training in surgical pathology and cytopathology.
Dr. Zalaznick was born and raised in Miami, FL. She attended Harvard University and graduated with a bachelor’s degree cum laude in Engineering Sciences, followed by a medical degree with honors in research from the University of Florida College of Medicine. She then completed an anatomic pathology residency at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, PA.
After residency, Dr. Zalaznick remained in Philadelphia to complete advanced specialty training programs (fellowships) in oncologic surgical pathology at
Fox Chase Cancer Center, and in cytopathology at Hahnemann Hospital/Drexel University. She started her pathology career as an Assistant Professor of Pathology at Tulane University in New Orleans, LA, but then changed gears to become the director of the anatomic pathology laboratory at a biotech company in Salt Lake City, UT. While there, she obtained certification in molecular diagnostics and received advanced training in Lean principles. Although she loves mountains
and snow, the Florida sunshine called her back home, and she is very proud to be working with such a talented group of pathologists at SaraPath.
Dr. Zalaznick became interested in pathology during her pathology course in medical school, and fell in love with cytopathology while shadowing the pathologists doing on site adequacy assessments at the University of Florida. “My favorite thing about being a pathologist is when I can immediately review a sample during a biopsy procedure to ensure that there is an adequate specimen for diagnosis and whatever subsequent testing may be needed for optimal patient care.”
Dr. Zalaznick is married and has two kids, a dog, and three rabbits. She loves to hike in National Parks (especially Utah’s “Big Five”), to do yoga and Pilates, and can usually be found listening to music and podcasts.
