Urologic Pathology
SaraPath provides comprehensive evaluation of bladder, kidney, prostate, testis, ureter, and urine specimens. Technical services are performed in-house in SaraPath’s CAP accredited facilities, including frozen sections, rapid and routine tissue processing, and an extensive menu of immunohistochemical and special staining services. IHC services include testing for basal cells and racemase to assist with the diagnosis of adenocarcinoma of prostate and PIN in needle core biopsies of prostate, as well as for classification of renal neoplasms. Bladder cancer FISH testing on urine specimens also available in-house.
Cytology processing and evaluation also available for the detection and characterization of malignant cells and other urologic abnormalities in symptomatic (usually hematuria) patients, screening for malignancy in selected individuals at high-risk for the development of urologic malignancy, and staging of urologic malignancies.
Expert consultation with nationally recognized leaders in their respective fields of interest is obtained on difficult, rare or unusual malignancies.
In the interest of patient safety, all new malignant diagnoses are reported first by telephone, followed by a written report.
